Navigating Uncertainty

I have a sense I’m trusting—a feeling I’ve felt before.

Back in 2007, months before the financial crisis, I had a knot in my stomach I couldn’t shake. Something felt… off. Unstable. I could see it in the numbers, yes—but more so in the energy around me. Things were out of balance.

At the time, I worked for PMI, deep in the mortgage world, and I remember feeling uneasy as we wrote high-risk 110% LTV loans. (For those not in mortgage banking, that means lending 10% more than the home was actually worth!) The math didn’t lie—appreciation at that pace was unsustainable. And yet, companies were banking on it lasting forever.

It was like playing Russian roulette and pretending the chamber was empty—until it wasn’t.

And now, almost two decades later, that familiar unease is stirring again. Only this time, it’s not about the mortgage industry. (Thank goodness.)

It feels bigger. Broader.

Like something is shifting beneath our feet.

And while I don’t have a crystal ball—and I’m certainly not here to predict doom—I can’t ignore the signs.

Moody’s downgraded U.S. bonds.

The deficit is climbing.

The pace of the world feels faster, more reactive.

And my gut says: Pay attention.

I was thinking recently of my brilliant friend Bill Newell (may he rest in peace), who was talking about this economic imbalance 15 years ago. He saw it coming then. And in some ways, I feel he’d be nodding in agreement right now.

So why am I sharing this?

Because I don’t want you—or myself—to bury our heads in the sand.

I don’t want to live in fear.

But I do want to live with awareness.

We may be heading into a season of chaos.

And while we can’t always control what’s happening around us, we can choose how we show up in it.

We can slow down.

We can ask deeper questions.

We can lead from clarity, not panic.

I help individuals and organizations navigate uncertainty like this—not just by strategizing but by guiding them back to their core identity, their inner compass, and their deeper wisdom.

Because when the world around us is noisy and unpredictable, the clearest answers often come from within.

Let’s stay awake.

Let’s stay grounded.

And let’s not wait for the next crisis to remember what truly matters.

With love,
