Mindful Transitions

One of the most overlooked yet powerful tools for presence and productivity is how we transition between moments in our day. When I coach executives, one of the first things I help them with is mindful transitions—those brief but essential pauses between meetings, tasks, or even between home and work life.

Many of my C-suite clients constantly rush from one meeting to the next, barely taking a breath, let alone a sip of water or a moment to gather their thoughts. By the end of the day, they feel scattered, drained, and stuck in a cycle that repeats itself the following day. What’s missing? The pause

Mindful transitions don’t require much time, but they do require intention. The goal is to reset before stepping into the next moment so you can show up fully present.

For me, it’s as simple as noticing the shift when I step from my living room into my office—I take a breath, settle into the space, and reset my focus. My husband, a doctor, pauses outside a patient’s room, takes a moment to review the chart, and gathers his thoughts before stepping in. For my executive clients, I encourage a 30-second pause before entering their next meeting—closing their eyes, taking three deep breaths, and getting clear on what they want to contribute and take away.

The result? More presence. More clarity. More impact. When they walk in centered and calm, the whole room shifts—shoulders relax, people breathe a little deeper, and the energy becomes more focused and intentional.

And the best part? It only takes a minute. A single mindful transition can change the tone of an entire conversation, a meeting, or even an evening at home.

So today, I invite you to try it. Pause. Breathe. Reset. And notice what changes.

Let me know how it goes—I’d love to hear how mindful transitions show up in your day.
