Something a Little Different

Usually, we mark milestones with a round 100—but this is my 108th Mindful Moment, and if you know me, you’ll know that 108 holds a special place in my heart. It's not just a number—it’s a feeling, a frequency, and a thread that has woven itself through my work, my rituals, my pricing, and honestly… my life.

You may have even noticed I often price my offerings at 1080 or 1008—not randomly, but intentionally. It's a quiet nod to something sacred.

Also… 8? It's my favorite number. Always has been.Since I was little, I loved how it looked—two soft loops meeting in the middle, an infinity sign standing upright. To me, 8 is a symbol of beauty and endlessness all in one. I used to doodle it over and over again, like a tiny ceremony I didn’t yet have words for.

So today, I want to share something different. A bit more vulnerable. A bit more me.

Let’s talk about 108.

🧘‍♀️ Why 108?

Across many ancient traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and yogic practices, 108 is a number of great significance. Its roots reach into the stars, our breath, the heart chakra, and the sacred texts of India.

Here’s just a glimpse of its layered magic:

🌌 Cosmic significance

Ancient sages observed that the sun and moon are both 108 times their own diameters from Earth—which is why they appear about the same size in our sky. Long before modern astronomy, they knew this.

In yogic philosophy, 108 energy lines (nadis) converge in the heart chakra—the center of compassion, connection, and love.

🕉 Spiritual tradition

  • A japa mala (prayer bead strand) has 108 beads, used for mantra meditation to anchor the mind and open the heart.

  • Practicing 108 sun salutations is a powerful way to honor seasonal shifts, new beginnings, or deep devotion.

🧮 Numerological meaning

There are 54 Sanskrit letters, each with both masculine and feminine energies, representing Shiva and Shakti. Multiplied, that’s 108.

In numbers:

  • 1 = Higher truth or oneness

  • 0 = Emptiness, wholeness, infinite potential

  • 8 = Infinity, eternity

108 reminds us that we are everything and nothing at once.

📜 Sacred texts and temples

There are said to be 108 Upanishads—texts that explore the nature of self and the divine. Many temples in India have 108 steps or sacred elements guiding seekers on their spiritual ascent.

So yes, this week’s Mindful Moment marks more than a number. It’s an invitation to pause, reflect, and remember that we are of the universe, not separate from it.

We are breath and body. We are Stardust and Soul.

We are circular like the 8—always returning, always evolving.

With love and reverence,
